FAQ - Preview

In preview by Direct3D or OpenGL, many problems arise caused by like a bug or compatibility of the video card driver. As reported problems are also mentioned on the home page, please see them together with the following points.

It is recommended to obtain the latest driver from the maker of video cards or chips and use it to avoid problems.

I cannot use Direct3D 9 preview.

Hardware rendering is not supported
Virtual environments; like as Virtual PC or VirtualBox; and a remote desktop may not support Direct3D 9. Please use another display method.
Bugs of the GPU driver
Please get the latest GPU driver from the web site of the GPU maker or Windows Update and install it.

I cannot use Direct3D 11 preview.

GPU does not support Direct3D 11
Your PC may not support Direct3D 11. The following GPUs support Direct3D 11:
  • Intel HD Graphics 4000 or later
  • GeForce 400 series or later
  • AMD RADEON HD 5000 series or later
(Some models with an irregular numbering may not support Direct3D regaldless of the above list)
GPUs support Direct3D 10 can also support Direct3D 11 display, but it may show slower than Direct3D 9 display.

I cannot use OpenGL preview.

Application error or blue screen has occurred when Direct3D/OpenGL is used.

Problem for hardware
It may be caused by the problem for the hardware such as physical failure, thermal runaway, and so on.

Texture is not shown or displayed incorrectly

Display [Texture] is not available.
Texture is not shown if there is not a check in [View header > Disp > Texture].
A (UV) mapping is not assigned.
Please assign UV values in [UVedit] command. Or select other mapping methods in [Mapping] command or [Material Property].
Image file for texture is not put in the appropriate folder.
Check a texture image file whether it exists in the specified folder by [Material property].
If you specify file path relative, a texture image file must be in the same folder with MQO/MQOZ file, or the folder specified by [Configuration > File > Folder of mapping bitmaps].
Video memory is insufficient.
As video memory (VRAM) is limited in Direct3D or OpenGL mode, it cannot be shown when available capacity becomes insufficient.
You can take measures like:
  • Make the size of the picture for texture smaller.
  • Reduce the resolution or the number of colors of the picture.
  • Change to the video card with more video memory.
  • Reduce the value in [Max resolution of texture] in [Preview] of [Menu > File > Configuration].
But the setting itself of mapping image is effective even if it is not shown, so you do not have to worry about that according to the situation.

An alpha mapping is not shown.

Display [Alpha] is not available.
Please check in both [View header > Disp > Texture] and [View header > Disp > Alpha].
A (UV) mapping is not assigned.
Please use [Mapping] or [UV edit] command to assign a mapping.

Overlapped semi-transparent polygons are not shown correctly.

[Correct depth] is not available.
Please check [View header > Disp > Alpha > Correct depth].
*This item is enabled when a GPU supports Direct3D 11 and the [Renderer] specifies Direct3D 11.
When the correct depth is not used, semi-transparent polygons are shown with incorrect depths. But, you can improve a little by the following operations:
  • Separate semi-transparent polygons into another object
  • Replace the object at the back with the forward in object panel

Background image cannot be displayed.

Background image is not available.
Please check in [View header > Disp > Background image].

Vertices, lines or faces are not shown

[Pt][Ln][Fc] buttons are not pushed.
Please push [Pt][Ln][Fc] buttons above each view.
It displays the current object only.
Please confirm if the [View header > Disp > Show only faces in a current object], or [Show lines of uncurrent objects] are checked.
The visibility of the object is hidden in the object panel.
Please confirm that an icon of each object in the object panel is visible.

The area close to or remote from the viewpoint is not shown or shown in a twisted shape.

The problem of parameters of a camera
Twist caused by perspective occurs when 3D space objects are projected into 2D plane. If the distance from the camera to the target object becomes shorter in the bigger view angle, twist seems to be conspicuous.
Please switch to an orthogonal view at the title in View header, or change a perspective and a view angle in the View Panel displayed by [View header > Disp > View Panel].

It is difficult to edit objects because the view rotates around the origin.

Make the selected part to the center of the rotation of the viewpoint.
Select a vertex, a line, or a face near the position you want to make it center and select [Menu > Selected > Set center of rotation] (Ctrl+W).
Then you can make that position to the center of the rotation of the viewpoint. And if you also select [Menu > Selected > Fit to view] (Ctrl+F), it becomes convenient because the screen fits to the selected area.

It is slow that objects are displayed in 3D view.

Sometimes, displaying of 3D view become slow if you make an object with many vertices or finely curved surface.

It may be improved by the following method.
